At Riverbridge, our vision for PE is to create an inclusive, supportive, and stimulating environment where every child can develop a lifelong love for physical activity. We aim to provide a balanced PE curriculum that caters to the diverse needs and interests of our students, promoting physical, emotional, and social well-being. We are able to do this through the support of our PE Hub Scheme which provides high-quality planning resources to empower teachers to deliver engaging PE lessons. Through a progressive approach from EYFS to Key Stage 2, we aspire to equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to lead active, healthy, and fulfilling lives.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage, our vision is to ignite a passion for physical activity in our youngest learners. At this stage, Physical Education (PE) focusses on developing fundamental movement skills, coordination, balance, and basic motor skills through play and structured activities.
In Key Stage 1, our vision expands to include more structured PE lessons that build on the foundation laid in the EYFS. The focus is on enhancing fundamental movement skills, introducing simple tactics for games, and fostering a positive attitude towards physical activity.
In Key Stage 2, our vision is to further refine students' physical abilities, deepen their understanding of various sports, and foster a sense of responsibility towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle. By the time children leave Riverbridge, they should be able to participate in more complex games and sports, take on leadership roles, such as team captains, take ownership over their own fitness and understand the importance of sportsmanship in competitive and non-competitive settings.
