At Riverbridge Primary School we offer a high-quality education in Science which provides children with the foundations for understanding the world. Pupils will gain key skills and knowledge that develop their curiosity and encourage them to think scientifically.

The main areas of study taught across KS1 and KS2 are ‘Animals including Humans,’ ‘Plants,’ ‘Materials,’ ‘Light,’ ‘Electricity,’ ‘Forces’ and ‘Space.’ Within each topic, pupils are supported to ask questions, investigate their ideas, collect evidence and explain their findings.

As well as gaining knowledge of important scientific ideas, concepts and vocabulary, children will participate in practical, enquiry-led learning. The working scientifically skills include: observing over time; pattern seeking; identifying, classifying and grouping; comparative and fair testing (controlled investigations); and researching using secondary sources. Pupils learn how to use scientific evidence to ask and answer important questions about the world around them. Gaining these skills and understanding of science will enable our children to consider the implications of science around us today and in the future. 

One key aspect of Science is to be able to work scientifically, which is taught across Key Stages One and Two.  Below is the progression document for this, which shows what children can do to reach the expected standard and how children could challenge themselves to be working at a greater depth in these areas.  Please see the attachment below.
